Set out in two loops of nine over 200 acres of flattish, links style terrain, South Winchester is a relatively easy course to walk around and it drains superbly to allow for excellent playing conditions all year round.
The 18th is a great hole to watch from the clubhouse, a 489 yard par 5 with a sharp dogleg left after 230 yards. You have the choice to play a sensible five or go for birdie with high risks attached. Try to cut the corner and you could land out of bounds. Survive that and you have the possibility of reaching the green in two from 200 yards – avoiding the lake that skirts the green and a bunker to the left.
